How do I get my Vehicle back after a DUI Charge?

If you’re vehicle has been impounded by police, either because of a DUI arrest or other reason, one of the most difficult and frustrating issues, is to find out where your vehicle is being held, and how to go about getting it back.  It needs to be done as soon as possible, because the company holding your vehicle will charge a daily “storage” fee for each day the vehicle is on their lot, in addition to the tow fees you’ll have to pay to get the vehicle returned to your possession.  The storage fees can accumulate to more than the tow fees in a short time.

When can my vehicle be impounded?

Vehicles may be impounded when one or more of the following takes place:

  • DUI arrest
  • After a vehicle accident
  • Arrest for unauthorized speed contest (street racing)
  • Arrest for drugs or firearms in vehicle
  • Illegally parked cars (some No Parking zones are scheduled…make sure you retrieve your car before the No Parking schedule goes into effect)

How do I find my vehicle after an impound?

Each local police department may have different impound locations and you will need to call the department with jurisdiction to get instructions for that locality.  Metro and other police agencies in Clark County report impounds to AutoReturn.com.  Most impounds in Clark County may be found by checking this site.

Where are the impound lots?

There are three tow companies in Las Vegas who impound vehicles, and each company has their own lot in different parts of town.  The companies and locations of the main impound lots are as follows:

  • Quality Towing – 4100 E Cheyenne, Las Vegas NV 89115. To retrieve a vehicle held by Quality Towing, call (702) 649-5711
  • Ewing Brothers – 1200 A Street, Las Vegas NV 89106. To retrieve a vehicle held by Ewing Brothers, call (702) 382-9261
  • Fast Towing – 2201 N Commerce St, Las Vegas NV 89102. To retrieve a vehicle held by Fast Towing, call (702) 383-3278

Each company will inform you of what forms of payment they accept, and the total impound fee required to retrieve your vehicle. You will need to provide some proof of ownership, usually vehicle registration papers, and a photo ID.  If the vehicle is not retrieved within a limited number of days, the tow companies are authorized to auction the vehicle. Your vehicle insurance company may cover at least of portion of the towing fees, although probably won’t pay the daily storage fees.
